Prior to coming to the Bar, Ghassan had over 13 years’ experience working as a solicitor in commercial litigation and regulatory matters at Gilbert + Tobin in Sydney and Freshfields in London, and as a recognised law reform advocate.

His previous matters include advising clients in litigation, arbitrations and regulatory matters in Australia and overseas covering many areas of law, including contract, consumer, financial services, telecommunications, administrative, property, human rights and common law.

Ghassan has acted for clients in the Royal Commissions into Aged Care and Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, and was among the solicitors assisting the Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory.

Ghassan’s legal policy advocacy has contributed to over 16 LGBTIQ+ legislative reforms, including Australia’s first scheme regulating medical procedures performed on intersex people without capacity to consent. In 2023, he was appointed a member of the ACT Restricted Medical Treatment Assessment Board under the landmark legislation.

Between 2019 and 2022, he also taught Principles of Public Law at the University of New South Wales.
