Biography
Ghassan is briefed in a range of commercial, public law and human rights matters.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Ghassan had over 13 years’ experience working as a solicitor in commercial litigation and regulatory matters at Gilbert + Tobin in Sydney and Freshfields in London, and as a recognised law reform advocate.
His experience includes litigation, arbitration and regulatory matters in Australia and overseas covering many areas of law, including public, contract, equity, consumer, financial services, telecommunications, property, and human rights law.
Ghassan is also regularly briefed in parole and coronial matters, with previous experience in Royal Commissions into Aged Care, Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, and the Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory.
Ghassan’s legal policy advocacy has contributed to over 16 LGBTIQ+ legislative reforms, including Australia’s first scheme regulating medical procedures performed on intersex people without capacity to consent. In 2023, he was appointed a member of the ACT Restricted Medical Treatment Assessment Board under the landmark legislation.
Between 2019 and 2022, he also taught Principles of Public Law at the University of New South Wales.
