Jillian Caldwell

Jill appears in a variety of public law, criminal law and regulatory matters, including in the High Court and Federal Court of Australia and the NSW Court of Appeal, Court of Criminal Appeal, Supreme Court, Land and Environment Court, District Court, Local Court and Coroners Court.  She has particular expertise in criminal prosecutions and appeals, constitutional and administrative law matters, environment and planning cases, judicial review proceedings, contempt proceedings and coronial inquiries.

Jill’s prior experience includes working as Counsel Assisting the NSW Solicitor General and Crown Advocate, during which time she appeared in significant cases for the State of NSW.  She also worked in a variety of senior roles at the NSW Crown Solicitor’s Office (CSO), including as A/Assistant Crown Solicitor and Special Counsel of the Criminal Law and Inquiries Team and a Senior Solicitor in the Constitutional Law Team; a Principal Legal Officer at the Commonwealth Department of Health; a Legal Adviser to the NSW Director of Public Prosecutions; a Solicitor at the Australian Government Solicitor; and an Associate to Wilcox J of the Federal Court of Australia.

Jill acts for a range of companies and individuals and Commonwealth and State ministers, departments and agencies.  She is listed in Doyles as a leading administrative and public law junior counsel and in the Legal 500 as a leading associate in the areas of crime and regulatory; construction, infrastructure and property; and commercial disputes.  Jill is also an Assistant Editor of the NSW Law Reports.
