Biography

Matthew is an experienced junior counsel practising in a wide range of areas and a range of jurisdictions, civil and criminal, trial and appellate.  His practice has an emphasis on white collar crime and regulatory matters, professional negligence, disciplinary, insurance, aviation and commercial matters.  These matters have included:

Prior to coming to the Bar, Matthew was a Federal Prosecutor with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) and a solicitor at Herbert Smith Freehills.  Matthew also has a strong interest in international criminal law, having interned at the UN International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia on the prosecution case against former Bosnian Serb president, Radovan Karadžić and advised on international criminal law both prior to and since coming to the bar.  Together with Robert Dubler SC, Matthew co-authored the text Crimes Against Humanity in the 21st Century: Law, Practice and Threats to International Peace and Security (2018, Brill Nijhoff).
