The Hon Dennis Cowdroy AO KC

Mr Cowdroy, a former Federal Court Justice, is a Nationally Accredited Mediator and Grade 1 Arbitrator. He has had a long experience in both years of practice as set out hereunder:

Mediation

Mr Cowdroy has successfully conducted 86 mediations for the Commonwealth Government. He holds appointments as a Mediator under the NSW Petroleum and Mining legislation and also for the NSW Department of Education.

He has mediated dispute involving land titles, commercial claims, compensation claims and matters involving national security.

Arbitration

Mr Cowdroy has been appointed arbitrator for disputes involving private, corporate and government clients. He has held appointments from the Singapore Court of International Arbitration and the Permanent Court of Arbitration, The Hague.

Prior Judicial Experience

Mr Cowdroy has been a Justice of the Federal Court of Australia and also The Land and Environment Court of NSW; As an Additional and Acting Justice of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory.

Mr Cowdroy has been a Judge Advocate for the Australian Defence Force and a member of the Defence Force Discipline Appeal Tribunal.

He has also been appointed a Presidential Member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal; as a Deputy President of that Tribunal; as an Appellate and Principal member of the New South Wales Civil and Administrative Tribunal; and as a Deputy President of the Mental Health Review Tribunal.

Administrative Experience

Mr Cowdroy has served as the Chairperson of the Australian Electoral Commission; as the inaugural Integrity Commissioner for the Australian Capital Territory; and as a member of the Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority (Commonwealth).
